Two new species of Sporothrix and their relation to Blastobotrys nivea.

چکیده
In the course of the investigations on fungi isolated from human skin by the second author, several strains were encountered of a fungus with sympodial conidium formation, which produce a litmus-like pigment. The same organism was recently isolated from air in the Netherlands; one of the aerial isolates, however, failed to produce any pigment. The species mentioned above resembled three strains of a fungus which was maintained in the CBS collection as Blastobotrys sp. However, the type of primary conidium formation and the shape of the conidiogenous cells are the same as in Sporothrix schenckii Hektoen et Perkins (1900). Sporothrix schenckii is the type species of the genus Sporothrix Hektoen et Perkins, which was validated and newly described by Nicot and Mariat (1973). Both species concerned were thought to be new species of the genus Sporothrix. Descriptions are based on colonies grown on 2 ~o malt agar at room temperature.

Specific Primers For Identification and Detection of Three Major Desert Truffle Species in Iran with Special Reference to Terfezia claveryi
ABSTRACT- Desert truffles are hypogeous ascomyceteous ectomycorrhizal fungi, occurring in arid and semi-arid ecosystems. A PCR-based method was developed for the identification of 3 major desert truffles of Iran: Terfezia claveryi, Tirmania pinoyi and Tirmania nivea based on internal transcribed spacers of rDNA. Two specific PCR primers were designed for T. claveryi, 4 for T. pinoyi, and 2 for ...
متن کاملMultigene phylogenetic analysis of the Trichomonascus, Wickerhamiella and Zygoascus yeast clades, and the proposal of Sugiyamaella gen. nov. and 14 new species combinations.
Relationships among species assigned to the ascosporic yeast genera Sporopachydermia, Stephanoascus, Trichomonascus, Wickerhamiella and Zygoascus, and to the associated anamorphic genera Arxula, Blastobotrys, Sympodiomyces and Trigonopsis, were determined from phylogenetic analyses of gene sequences from the nearly complete large-subunit rRNA gene, the mitochondrial small-subunit rRNA gene, and...
متن کاملDevelopment and validation of molecular markers for characterization of Boehmeria nivea var. nivea and Boehmeria nivea var. tenacissima
BACKGROUND The root of Boehmeria spp (ramie) is a hepatoprotective Chinese herbal medicine. Medicinal properties vary between Boehmeria nivea var. nivea and Boehmeria nivea var. tenacissima, which are local species found in Taiwan. As commercial preparations may use either species, there is a need for a rapid and simple assay to identify variants for quality control. METHODS Four methods were...
متن کاملThe divorce of Sporothrix and Ophiostoma: solution to a problematic relationship
One of the causal agents of human sporotrichosis, Sporothrix schenckii, is the type species of the genus Sporothrix. During the course of the last century the asexual morphs of many Ophiostoma spp. have also been treated in Sporothrix. More recently several DNA-based studies have suggested that species of Sporothrix and Ophiostoma converge in what has become known as Ophiostoma s. lat. Were the...
متن کاملTwo new Ophiostoma species with Sporothrix anamorphs from Austria and Azerbaijan.
The genus Ophiostoma includes numerous species of primarily insect-vectored, wood-staining fungi. Several anamorph genera that differ in their micronematous or macronematous conidiogenous cells have been associated with Ophiostoma species. Among the former group, Sporothrix is associated with many species and is characterized by conidiogenous cells that arise laterally or terminally from any pl...
